Hi all, Ira Schulte, we are going to be doing a song “What a Wonderful World”. It’s not performed by the original artist, but by two younger women. One was Eva Cassidy, I believe was in the verge of being a great of the likes of Ella Fitzgerald. She was afraid of performing on stage, but then performed in a Blues Club in DC, and unfortunately within a year at the age of 33, she died of melanoma.
Katie Melua who is now 39, grew up in Georgia, I believe then part of the Soviet Union and then emigrated to the United Kingdom, where she grew up admiring Eva Cassidy. And then did this song in a similar manner as “Unforgettable” performed by Nat King Cole and his daughter, Natalie.
The words and tone in this rendition are haunting, but at moments also encouraging and positive, but also despairing. This coming week I will be covering my 5E’s which are 5 words that begin with E and then hopefully can help you live a more just and equitable life.
